Google Launches Mobile-Friendly Label on Search Results Pages

Google wants its users to receive the most appropriate results for their searches, and it only makes sense that they’ve now taken steps to let searchers using mobile devices instantly know whether a website page in the results list is mobile-friendly or not.

This is great news for those of us with mobile-friendly websites and of course websites that utilize the power of responsive web design. Not such great news for the millions of out-dated websites that are built only for users with large screens. Internet traffic is now made up of almost 50% of users on mobile devices, and the way we build websites has drastically changed over the last two or three years. Our audience has changed and as a result, the web design industry had to change with it.

Google also recently announced that websites that are mobile-friendly have more chance of ranking well on search engine results pages than out-dated, desktop only sites. This, coupled with page load speed, are two somewhat newer aspects of on-site search engine optimization that Google’s algorithm has placed greater importance upon in recent years.

Let’s ditch the pinching, scrolling and aimless tapping, and welcome the new wave of mobile-friendly sites.
